Ride the Pony

Description

The crux is surmounting the pony flake, an exciting move that usually leaves the climber straddling a completely detached but securely wedged block. The dihedral above is well protected and involves classic stemming moves. There is a bolted anchor at the top of this pitch.

Location

This climb is located near the northern end of the crag just to left of a seasonal waterfall that flows out of Kovite Cove. The route is identifiable by its wedged, protruding "pony" flake (which you must "ride") and its striking upper dihedral. Ride the Pony is also the first pitch of both Mace and Chain and Plate Lunch.

Protection

A standard trad rack with double cams in the mid-size range. A #4 Camelot is helpful.
