4. Bear's Den

A small area with about five routes, 40 to 60 ft long.

In early May, 2017 a comment was made by Jonas Cole about the 5th bolt on a 5.10c blowing out when he leaned back on it. This was forwarded to Jon Sykes. A few days later he (Jon) replaced the bolt with a 1/2 inch bolt and sent me the following:

... I replaced that bolt at the Bears Den today... with a Raul 5 piece 1/2" inch bolt. The rock is a softer Shist. The route is called Black Bear 5.10b/c has been there since 2010 and has been climbed 30 or more times with many falls and no problems. With that said, all bolts should be questioned in softer rock.......Jon's thinking of replacing bolts in shist with glue-ins.
