Peak Mountain 3

Boulder Over Burr (Bob)

Description

[Edit]

Large and possibly the park’s most prominent boulder / glacial erratic with multiple climbable routes and overhangs. Approximately 15 feet tall (at the uphill side).

One side is a narrower and near-vertical face with challenging highball problem(s) with clear and flat landing.  The other face is much easier and less than vertical with multiple routes to the top, some easy enough to climb in with hiking shoes.  There is a climbable overhanging area (at the top of the hill) between those two faces, and another overhanging area on the downhill side that isn’t as clear to climb through.  Downhill from the boulder itself is a jumble of large chunks of rocks with potential for more routes.

Since this is so obvious and right on the main blue trail, I’m sure this has been climbed repeatedly, but specific routes and beta are hard to come by and/or intentionally withheld.  Being on the main trail, there is (relatively) high foot traffic, please be respectful.

Does not have a formal name, so in 2017 the trail manager solicited suggestions (unclear if there is a winner?) countytimes.com/news/canton…
