Grandmother's Day

Description

The original, three-pitch route is no longer available due to a break. The first pitch and a start of second can serve as good alternative start to Bucky Blue, however.

Pitch 1, (5.7, 110 ft.). Start on Bucky Blue for about 20 feet, but stay on the slightly bulging almost-buttress instead of moving right. Go basically straight up to a wide ledge. Your belay should be level with a distinct tree to your left (the top of Pitch 1 of Mother's Day).

Pitch 2, (5.5, 150 ft. to big tree). From the right end of the ledge head straight up a distinct cut. This leads to a slab. Continue on the right on this slab to connect with Bucky Blue.

Location

Start the same as Bucky Blue. Stays left of Bucky Blue, right of Mother's Day.

Protection

Standard rack, maybe with some small cams added.

To rap from top of Pitch 1: go left on the ledge and rappel off the small tree (top of Pitch 1 of Mother's Day). Single 60m rope is enough. Rap sling is in place.

To rap from top of Pitch 2: go from the slab to the large tree. Single rappel to the ground. Two 60m ropes required.
