MapDescription
A very scenic hike from New Army Pass over flat boulders to a final Class 2 section near the summit. Stay just west of the ridge for the duration, but one can occasionally step to the crest for the view down.
Some expansive views of the Great Western Divide and the Kaweah Peaks Ridge.
Either descend the way you came, or you can descend steep scree on the north east face to hit the New Army Pass trail before it makes the big switchbacks.
Location
Starts at New Army Pass.
From the lowest of the Cottonwood Lakes the trail to New Army Pass follows its south shore, and heads south around a ridge spur then west past a couple of scenic lakes to finally start grinding its way up switchbacks to over 12,000 feet.
Protection
None. Trekking Poles will help.
