Skill Saw Crack

Description

Thirty vicious feet of overhanging crack that starts as a seam and widens to hands. Has been led. From Steiger: "tape is humbly recommended". The route gets 2 stars not because it's fun, but because it's pretty unique on Mt. Lemmon.

Location

To find the TOP of the crack, start at the Matterhorn Boulder. Walk north from there along the BACK (NW) side of the Skillsaw Crag as it heads up a bit and then back down a slope. After about 100 yards jump up on the rock and look SE for a crack coming up and over a band of rock towards you. The crack has two bolts near the top. If you go all the way down to the drainage, you have gone too far.

Once you have found the top of the crack, you can walk 50 feet north, turn right and scramble down to the base.

Alternatively you can walk along the front side of Skillsaw (SE side) for about 100 yards and look up to find the crack but it's a bit sketchy to reach the base of the crack from the cliff band below.

Protection

Two new bolts for TR. Take your rack and look the crack over if you want to lead.
