Description
A long snow climb up to the high plateau then south to the summit pinnacle. It would also be a worthy ski mountaineering objective in early season when Onion Valley is open.
Climb a moderate snow gully to the upper bowl, then tackle the steeper face and possible cornice to the plateau. Stroll south along the plateau with fabulous view of the Great Western Divide to the west side of the summit pinnacle, a short steep dihedral will deposit you on the summit.
Location
Gully on the right side of the face, which leads up to a higher bowl.
Protection
None - ice axe and crampons. Or a rope for the inexperienced.
Descent
Head south until you can gain the top of a wide snow gully/slope which you can glissade all the way back to the lake - a very fast descent and a perfect finale! It would also make a good backcountry ski run.
