Medal of Honor

Description

Also known as Leg Breaker in honor of C/Sgt Tinsley, who was a British Royal Marine mountain leader exchange instructor in the early 90s. He took a whipper mid-way up and hit the overhang with his leg, breaking his tibia. To add insult to injury, he re-broke the leg when dropping into a telemark turn at Mammoth the following winter.

Climb cracks and edges to roof. Climb the roof on the left side on good holds. The route meanders generally straight up on small edges and cracks. The face gets smoother and more moss covered closer to the top, but is well protected with small gear and bolts.

Location

Name painted at the start of the route as “7 (Leg Breaker) Medal of Honor.” Walk off to climbers left. Two 60m ropes from the tree will NOT reach the base.

Protection

Bolts and small gear. Gear anchor at the top or a good tree can be reached with a 70m rope.
