Perilous

Scamper up the dihedral and pocketed left face to a ledge. Trend left to follow the prominent black streak that runs down the tan face. A horizontal split provides a nice rest before tackling the cryptic sequence of pockets and seams that define the crux of the route.

This route was named after the perils of establishing new routes, namely the trundled blocks that severed an almost brand new rope and the persistent snake who kept inhabiting the area. After being inadvertently flushed out at the start of development, what appeared to be a juvenile rattler was relocated far down the hill from the route. To our great surprise and terror, we saw the same snake return, even after some major rockfall. After consulting the Colorado Herpetological Society, it turned out, it was in fact a Nightsnake, not a rattler, a completely harmless and somewhat rare snake to find. Please do your best not to disturb it, but at the same time, be wary of any snake found in the Shelf area.
